Newburyport, MA ♦ It is with fond memories that we at Chase and Lunt Insurance, and those of the Greater Newburyport Area remember the HMS Bounty after her voyage to Newburyport this summer.
The HMS Bounty was en route to Florida and attempting to navigate around the storm when it began taking on water, eventually sinking off the coast of North Carolina. All but two of the crew members were rescued. The body of Claudene Christian was recovered by the Coast Guard, and Captain Robin Walbridge remains missing at sea.
The HMS Bounty is a replica ship created for the 1962 film, “Mutiny on the Bounty,” and later starred in “Treasure Island” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” The ship traveled the world sharing the lost art of square-rigged sailing with the masses, and was docked in Newburyport for a weekend just this past July.
As we remember our times spent on-board the ship and with the joyful Captain and crew, we consider ourselves lucky to have been just a small part of this great ship’s legacy.
